In Loving Memory of
12th March 1945 – 18th January 2026
Margaret Anne Thompson — known to most as Maggie — passed away peacefully on 18th January 2026, surrounded by her family. She was 80 years old.
Maggie lived a life defined by kindness, curiosity, and a quiet devotion to the people and places she loved. Born in Leeds, she remained deeply connected to Yorkshire throughout her life, carrying its warmth, humour, and straightforward honesty with her wherever she went.
Teaching was more than a profession for Maggie — it was her calling. Over 35 years as a primary school teacher, she shaped countless young lives with patience, encouragement, and an endless supply of stories. Long after her retirement, former pupils would still stop her in the street to say thank you, each carrying a memory of a teacher who made them feel capable and seen.
In 1968, Maggie married John, her partner in life and in laughter. Together they built a home that was always open — to friends, neighbours, and anyone in need of a cup of tea and a listening ear. Their shared love of gardening, travel, and simple routines filled their days with quiet joy.
Maggie was a devoted mother to Sarah and Michael, and later a deeply proud grandmother to Emma, Oliver, and Grace. Her grandchildren will remember afternoons spent baking, her famously terrible jokes, and the way she could turn even the most ordinary day into something special.
She found joy in books, crossword puzzles, and long walks across the Yorkshire moors. An active member of her local book club and a long-time volunteer at the community library, Maggie believed in giving back — quietly, consistently, and without fuss.
Above all, Maggie had a gift for making people feel welcome. She listened without judgement, offered help without being asked, and left people better than she found them.
She will be deeply missed by her husband John, her children Sarah and Michael, her grandchildren, and the wide circle of friends and family who were fortunate enough to share in her life.
Maggie's life was one of care, warmth, and steady love. She leaves behind memories that will be cherished, stories that will be retold, and a presence that will always be felt.
